Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Maya House, Inc.

What is Maya House?

Maya House is a nonprofit organization providing structured transitional housing and coordinated supportive services for adults experiencing housing instability. Our model is designed to help residents move from instability to permanent, self-sustaining housing.

Is Maya House an emergency shelter?

No. Maya House is not an emergency shelter or crisis-response program. We serve individuals who demonstrate readiness for structured support and are progressing toward permanent housing.

What makes Maya House different from other housing programs?

Maya House bridges the gap between emergency shelter and permanent housing. Our phased transitional model emphasizes stability, financial readiness, and long-term housing retention — not temporary placement.

Who qualifies for the program?

Maya House serves adults (18+) experiencing housing instability who demonstrate readiness for structured support, have income or a clear income pathway, can participate in a community-based living environment, and are working toward permanent housing. Admission is based on program fit and readiness.

Does Maya House accept self-referrals?

At this time, Maya House operates on a referral-based model. We accept referrals from approved partner organizations, including housing agencies, re-entry programs, healthcare providers, and workforce partners.

What does 'program ready' mean?

Program readiness means an individual is willing and able to participate in a structured transitional environment, engage in goal-setting, and work toward permanent housing. Maya House is designed for individuals who are stabilizable within a community-based setting, not those requiring emergency or intensive clinical intervention.

Who is not appropriate for the program?

Maya House may not be appropriate for individuals who require emergency shelter, need 24-hour clinical supervision, require inpatient treatment, or are unable to participate in a structured living environment.

How long can residents stay?

The typical length of stay is 6–24 months, depending on individual progress and housing readiness.

What services are provided?

Maya House integrates intensive case management, workforce and income navigation, benefits coordination, financial capability coaching, behavioral health referrals, housing search and landlord engagement, and Housing Readiness Savings support.

What is the Housing Readiness Savings Program?

As residents prepare for permanent housing, a structured portion of savings may be set aside to support move-in costs such as security deposits, first month’s rent, and essential furnishings. This program promotes financial preparedness and long-term housing sustainability.

Who can make referrals?

We accept referrals from housing authorities and CoC partners, shelter and transitional housing programs, re-entry service providers, healthcare and behavioral health professionals, and workforce development agencies.

How can organizations partner with Maya House?

Organizations can partner through referral coordination, service integration, strategic collaboration, or philanthropic investment. Partnerships are built on mutual accountability and shared outcomes.
